Period of validity

by: Callum Hill (Callum Hill) 22 June 2015, 10:14:50 AM (GMT +1)

According to EN15804 the period of validity is 5 years
(section 9 - page 44) ' After verification an EPD is valid
for a 5 year period from the date of issue, after which it shall be reviewed and
verified. '

But In 2014:13 ver. 1 it states that the period of validity
is 3 years (Page 17 - g and page 18  Section 11

Dear Callum,

How to handle this requirement was unclear in version 2.01 of the General Programme Instructions. In the updated version, this has been clarified:

The maximum validity of an EPD is set for each product category in the PCR, and shall not exceed three years after
which the declaration must necessarily be revised and reissued. For construction product EPDs compliant with
EN 15804, a validity of five years as described in Section 9 (“Verification and validity of the EPD”) shall be applied.

I expect all EN 15804-compliant PCRs to take this into account when being updated.

Best regards,
Kristian Jelse, Secretariat

Thank for that clarification.
Is the validity starting from the date of the LCA or the EPD?

EPD validity is set during EPD verification. The date of the LCA and the data theirin is only relevant for the assessment if the data quality requirements of the programme instructions and the PCR have been fulfilled.
