Rails for transport, tramways and rail for track devices (LEAF Select)

Traditionally, steel long products, rails, are used for infrastructure sector for railways, subways, tramways, light-rail tracks, crossings etc.

This Environmental Product Declaration is valid for Rail products of varied grades and geometries, dimensions, as well as different forms of delivery. Specific information on dimension tolerances, manufacturing and mechanical and chemical properties can be found in the relevant standards. Transport rails usually weight between 40 kg/m and 80 kg/m. Light rails typically weigh between 18 kg/m and 40 kg/m. Depending on the application one-piece rails, from Gijon mill, can reach up to 108 meters’ length.

Related to applications, rails are typically used in components for railway tracks, conventional or high-speed railway tracks. Technical specifications will depend on the type of rail (e.g., rails for railways, subways, tram, light tracks, crossings), location of installation, international standards, and agreement between the manufacturer and the purchaser.

Transport rails are used in several applications, including public and urban transport lines, traditional mixed-traffic systems, urban transport, port terminal projects, heavy haul lines and light railway lines.

This EPD covers rails produced using 40% direct reduced iron (DRI) and 60% scrap.
