PCR description

Version 2.0.0 of this PCR was published on 2025-09-17. Refer to section 9 in the PCR for changes compared to the previous versions.

The updated PCR has an expanded scope, covering granulated and micronized stone from quarry, with granulometry lower than 2 mm. The updated PCR will also cover stone and sand that naturally has granulometry lower than 2 mm, without being subject to grinding. The PCR will cover subsets of UN CPC 152, 153, 161, 162, 163, 376 and 379.

For question on the PCR, please contact the PCR Moderator Elena Neri of INDACO2 Srl.

This document provides Product Category Rules (PCR) for the assessment of the environmental performance of micronized stone from quarry. It aims to be the main way to develop and register EPDs in the International EPD System.

Micronized stone from quarry is a ultra-fine powder, obtained from rock grinding. It is characterized by a selected granulometry lower than 200 µm. It can be used in zootecnic, agri-food, pharmaceutic, painting and building sectors, depending on the characteristics and chemical composition of the stone of origin. For example micronized limestone is mainly used as calcium carbonate additive in agriculture (e.g. fertilizer or chemical for organic management) and feedingstuffs, but it can be used also in pharmaceutic sector, if the purity is high.

The scope of the products does not in general fall under the European standard for core product category rules for construction products, EN 15804, as products are not defined as construction products themselves. Specific products may however fall under the definition of construction products. In such cases this PCR shall not be used. Other PCRs made in accordance with the EN 15804 standard are available at www.environdec.com.

The PCR document may be downloaded in the EPD Portal. It is free to register in the EPD Portal.
