PCR description
This c-PCR under PCR 2019:14 is an adoption of the NPCR 026 Part B for Furniture and components of furniture of EPD Norway.
Note that the previous version of c-PCR-021 (version date 2022-09-29) referred directly to version 2.0 of NPCR 026 (also termed NPCR 026:2022) at EPD Norway's website, with additional requirements, specifications and restrictions stated on the PCR's landing page in the PCR Library (this page). As of the adoption of version 3.0 of NPCR 026 (also termed NPCR 026:2024), a separate c-PCR-021 document was created, including the additional requirements, specifications and restrictions. This was done to improve documentation and archiving of the rules applicable for the product category at any given time.
The new c-PCR-021 has been assigned version number 2.0.0 (the previous c-PCR-021 only had a version date). 2025-04-22, an editorial update was made, with version number 2.0.1.
The c-PCR-021 document is available for download at this page, if accessed through the EPD Portal. Version 3.0 of NPCR 026 is downloadable here. The c-PCR is valid until 2027-10-08.
In addition to being available in the c-PCR-021 document, the additional requirements, specifications and restrictions are listed below. The text in cursive are the additional requirements, specification and restrictions added in version 2.0.0 of c-PCR-021 compared to the version dated 2022-09-29.
Using this c-PCR to register an EPD under the International EPD System, the following additional requirements, specifications and restrictions are to be followed:
- All references to “NPCR part A”, “Part A” or "EPD-Norway's guidelines" are replaced with references to PCR 2019:14. Among others, this means that the rules on EPDs of multiple products in PCR 2019:14 apply.
- If there is an applicable UN CPC code for the product, it shall be stated in the EPD (in the product description section).
- Guidance and requirements of PCR 2019:14 and EN 15804:2012+A2:2019+AC:2021 not referenced to in the PCR also apply.
- A clarification is added in relation to Section 6.3.1 and the rules for when to use a functional or declared unit: A functional unit shall be used for the type of furniture that has a defined reference service life (RSL) in Table 2 in Section 6.3.2 of the PCR. For other types of furniture, and components of furniture, a declared unit shall be used. If a declared unit is used, results shall be reported per declared unit.
- In Section 7.1, it is implied that a table with the results of selected key indicators shall be included in the declaration of general information. Such a table shall not be included in the general information section. Results shall be declared in accordance with PCR 2019:14.
- In Section 7.2.2. it is said that two results tables shall be declared, one per declared/functional unit and one for the whole product. However, results shall only be declared per declared or functional unit.
The following specification was removed when the NPCR 026:2024 was adopted.
- In Section 6.3.5, the reference to “the REACH candidate list and Norwegian priority list”, is replaced with a reference to "the REACH candidate list" only.
Version history of c-PCR-021:
Version 2022-09-29: Version 2.0 of NPCR 026 was adopted as c-PCR-021 under PCR 2019:14, after being reviewed and accepted by the Technical Committee of EPD International acting as PCR Review Panel for the adoption process. Review chair was Diogo Aparecido Lopes Silva, Universidade Federal de São Carlos. Version 2.0 of NPCR 026 is downloadable at EPD Norway PCR library.
Version 2.0.0 (2024-11-28): Version 3.0 of NPCR 026 was adopted as version 2.0.0 of c-PCR-021 under PCR 2019:14, after being reviewed by the Technical Committee of EPD International acting as PCR Review Panel for the adoption process. Review chair was Diogo Aparecido Lopes Silva, Universidade Federal de São Carlos. After this re-adoption, additional requirements, specifications and restrictions were added, see above or the c-PCR-021 document.
Version 2.0.1 (2025-04-22): Editorial update.
During the updating process, the validity of the previous version of the c-PCR was first prolonged until 2024-07-01, due to the initiation of an updating process, and later until 2024-10-01, as EPD Norway allows their PCRs to be used up to three months after their expiration dates.
