EPD International AB

Progamme Operator of the IES

EPD International AB, a limited company registered in Sweden, serves as the programme operator of the International EPD System (IES). Commonly referred to as the Secretariat of IES, EPD International is responsible for the overall administration, coordination, and operation of the programme.

As a programme operator in full compliance with ISO 14025 Environmental labels and declarations, EPD International is entrusted with a set of mandatory obligations. These include oversight of governance, management, and the technical development of the programme. While the core responsibilities of IES are carried out by the Board of Directors and the Secretariat, the Technical Committee (TC) and the International Advisory Board (IAB) provide essential technical and strategic guidance.

The Board of Directors is responsible for the overarching governance of the programme, including strategic direction and financial supervision. The Secretariat oversees the day-to-day management of IES, ensuring efficient service delivery and operational continuity.

Maintaining impartiality is a fundamental principle in all validation and verification activities. EPD International has established procedures to manage potential conflicts of interest and to ensure objective, transparent decision-making. All employees and third-party contributors involved in these activities are required to comply with a [Code of Conduct](hyperlink) that emphasises independence and integrity.

EPD International AB is a wholly owned subsidiary of IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute—an independent, non-profit research organisation jointly established by the Swedish Government and Swedish industry. As a limited company, EPD International AB is governed by a board of directors, and relevant corporate information is publicly disclosed in IVL’s annual reports.
