Technical Advisory Body of the IES

The Technical Committee (TC) serves as a key advisory body to the Secretariat, offering expert guidance on a wide range of technical matters. These include Product Category Rules (PCRs), Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies, verification sample checks, and reviews of the General Programme Instructions (GPI). 

Responsibilities of the Technical Committee include: 

  • Acting as the PCR Review Panel 

  • Recommending updates to general LCA methodologies and addressing technical and LCA-related issues within the programme framework 

  • Providing technical support to the Secretariat 

  • Approving individual verifiers and recommending procedures for monitoring their competence 

  • Supporting sample checks to ensure verifications are performed in accordance with the GPI and applicable PCRs 

  • Reviewing medium and major updates to the General Programme Instructions 

The Committee is composed of a maximum of 20 independent experts in the fields of LCA, EPD, and PCR, representing a broad geographic and sectoral diversity. Members are appointed for three-year terms, with the possibility of unlimited consecutive renewals upon written approval by the Secretariat.
