Depending on how the data flow in the International EPD System (IES), there are two types of API: Upstream API and Downstream API.
Upstream API refers to the data that are sent from you to the IES. This includes JSON “full EPD format” (all information visible in the EPD PDF document).
Downstream API refers to you retrieve data from the IES. The Environdec External Downstream API offers EPD data in the formats of ILCD+EPD and a few endpoints, while full formats will be provided in the future.
As a leading programme operator in digitalisation, EPD International is committed to continuously advancing this field to meet the growing demands of yours for a more user-friendly and accessible EPD format.
Three ways to integrate with the upstream API of International EPD System (IES) for certain construction products:
1. Pre-verified and fully integrated tool
If your tool is not pre-verified, but you still want to submit data to the International EPD System to avoid duplicate work, you can send it via API.
The verification process will then continue with third-party verification in EPD Compiler.
Note: EPD Compiler is a feature that enables full digitalisation of the EPD in our EPD Library, and compiles the EPD into the ILCD+EPD format compatible for ECO Platform where part of the EPD is digitised.
Getting started with our API is simple—just follow these steps:
Follow the step-by-step guide available on the same page to help you get up and running smoothly.
If you want access to all EPDs from various programme operators beyond the International EPD System, you should integrate with ECO Platform. They provide the EPDs in different formats.
Note: Kindly note that this is the first draft of upstream API. Should you be interested in learning about the first version of upstream API, kindly contact the Secretariat.
