Urea-formaldehyde resin for wood-based panels (type Silekol 1XX)
Urea-formaldehyde resins are obtained by reacting urea with formaldehyde in an acidic environment. The production of resins is a multi-stage process with a variable temperature-time profile, different molar ratios of substrates, and different pH values. The most commonly used reaction catalysts are different pH values and organic or inorganic acids. The final product has a relatively high viscosity, which is the result of distilling off excess water. It can be cured at elevated temperatures with the addition of a polycondensation catalyst based on acids or their salts and is mainly used as a binder in the production of wood based panels.
