Hot rolled steel plates and sheets

Product information

Hot rolled steel plates and sheets are produced in a mill process including rolling of steel in a temperature high enough (800-1250°C) in order to be formed and shaped easily. In general, a sheet is a thinner steel product that has been cut from a continuously rolled coil. Hence a plate is a thicker steel product that has been produced (rolled) as a single item. The thicknesses vary depending on the production process of the steel mill, but generally speaking hot rolled sheet comes with a thickness between 2-12 mm and plates have a thickness of 12 mm and more. Steel plates and sheets are produced in different steel grades, with different mechanical properties and characteristics, where the low-carbon and weldable constructional steel grades S235JR and S355J2 are two of the common ones.
