EPD Compiler: supporting the creation of fully digitalised EPDs
With the launch of EPD Compiler, digitalisation of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) is now made possible for most construction products to ensure efficiency and transparency in the EPD development. The digitalisation of EPDs means access to quality data, faster systems, and seamless integrations.
Effective 29 January 2025, the International EPD System (IES) introduced a groundbreaking feature—the EPD Compiler—designed to enhance the efficiency and transparency of Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) development for the majority of construction products. This innovation represents a significant advancement in data accessibility, management, and integration.
The EPD Compiler streamlines the development of EPDs by offering clear instructions, built-in validations, and seamless support for automatic data imports from the Excel template available in the IES platform. These enhancements simplify the process, ensuring greater accuracy and reducing administrative effort.
With the EPD Compiler, verified information included in an EPD is now digitalised and accessible via a dedicated hyperlink. Organisations can showcase EPDs on the IES web-based platform by sections of interest, eliminating the need to store, open, and navigate lengthy PDF documents. Additionally, EPD Compiler enables straightforward and timely data updates and management in your own tools through the IES API, minimising the reliance on manual updates and the handling of extensive EPD inventories.
The EPD Compiler has also been designed with data integration in mind. It supports data imports to different tools and synchronises data with the ECO Platform, enhancing compatibility across systems and enhancing usability.
This new feature will initially be available for certain construction products and will undergo a 6-month trial period. During this time, we strongly encourage users to share your feedback, as the EPD International remains committed to refining the feature and improving the EPD development process and its quality.
We look forward to your participation and valuable input as we continue to advance the IES.
