Fully Digital EPDs now live in the EPD Library

The International EPD System has published fully digital Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), created by leading companies in Italy, Switzerland, Finland, and Sweden using the EPD Compiler. This marks a major step toward efficient EPD development, enhanced data quality and transparency in the construction sector.

Following the release of the EPD Compiler in January, the Secretariat of the International EPD System (IES) is proud to unveil the first fully digital Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) now available in the EPD Library. This milestone marks a significant step forward in the digitalisation of EPDs, bringing enhanced efficiency, transparency, and accessibility to the process.

Digital EPDs in the International EPD System

As of 20 May 2025, a total of 62 digital EPDs have been published within the IES. Forward-looking companies based in Italy, Switzerland, Finland, and Sweden are leading the transition from static PDF-based declarations to a dynamic, fully digital EPD format. By adopting the EPD Compiler for EPD development, these companies are streamlining their internal workflows, improving data quality, and facilitating easier integration with other digital platforms and tools.

The following companies have published fully digital EPDs:

  • Heidelberg Materials Italia (Italy) - 2
  • Aconitum Swiss Sàrl (Switzerland) - 1
  • Purso Oy (Finland) - 3
  • NCC Industry AB (Sweden) - 56

The first fully digital EPD goes to Heidelberg Materials Italia, a leading construction materials company in Italy and a long-standing EPD owner of the IES. The newly published EPD covers the i.pro STRUCTURA ECO CAM range — durable concretes with a minimum of 5% recycled or secondary raw materials. Designed for structural uses, these concretes meet UNI EN 206 and UNI 11104 standards. View the full EPD here: EPD-IES-0021318

The second digital EPD is owned by Aconitum Swiss Sàrl based in Switzerland. Their WAYNERR® Acoustic Sand Panel is an innovative biopolymer-based product designed for sound reduction and absorption. Made from collagen-rich biopolymers filled with quartz sand, this acoustic panel offers enhanced performance in various applications. View the full EPD here: EPD-IES-0021324

The third digital EPD is held by Finnish company Purso Oy and covers their Fire Door Systems. Their fire store system has an aluminum internal and is designed for residential and commercial buildings. View the full EPD, visit: EPD-IES-0021619

The Secretariat extends its sincere gratitude to the leading companies for embracing this new functionality and publishing their EPDs in fully digital format through the EPD Compiler. Their commitment to advancing sustainable practices with data transparency sets a valuable example for the construction industry.

Looking Ahead in EPD Digitalisation

"With the launch of the 'EPD Compiler' for the digitalisation of EPDs, we are taking a significant step towards a more efficient and transparent approach to environmental performance reporting on products and services in the construction industry," said Sebastiaan Stiller, CEO at EPD International. "This innovation not only simplifies the EPD development process, but also fosters better decision-making by offering reliable and easily accessible data."

The introduction of the "EPD Compiler" aligns with the growing demand for sustainability and transparency in the construction sector. As regulatory requirements and industry standards evolve, digital EPDs will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance and supporting the construction sector on its path toward a more sustainable future.

Industry professionals and stakeholders are encouraged to explore the new functionality and leverage its capabilities for a more streamlined and sustainable approach for EPD development. The Secretariat of IES welcomes your participation and valuable input as we continue to advance the IES:
